You Were Alone For So Many Years

You've been alone for many years
You learned to never ask for more
You faced the evenings on your own and learned to carry on once more
You made each choice all by yourself
Stop waiting for a gentle word.
And even
Through the darkest nights, you
Stop believing love occurred
You say
I'm fine, I need no one
I've learned to count on me
But even when you smile like that
I see what no one sees
You've been alone for far too long.
So
Tired of always being strong.
The silence learned to live with you
As if that's where it belongs
You've been alone for far too long
But your heart never did you wrong.
Is
It so much to need someone and someone
There to lean upon?
I won't
