Children Shouldn't Cry…

Let the children laugh, let them play
Keep the darkness far away
They don't deserve the way
The pain, let their sky be clear of rain
Children shouldn't cry, shouldn't know
The kind of grief that makes you old
Every child should wake to life
Not the echoes of the night
Not the siren, not the fire
Not the fear that climbs up higher
Little hands should hold a toy
Not a photo of a boy
Who used to laugh, who used to run
Before the world took back the sun
Let the smallest hearts they saw
Let their questions flow along
They were never meant to know
Which direction bullets go
Let the children laugh, let them play
Keep the darkness far away
They don't deserve the way
The pain, let that sky be clear of rain
Children, no flag, no pride
It's worth one tear a child must hide
If we can't protect the young
